Shape the future growth of Lee County through a proactive, inclusive community effort that continuously improves the quality of life by reaching a harmonious balance between economic development, environmental sustainability and community livability, to provide a legacy for future generations.

The SmartGrowth taskforce of the Horizon Council will lead and encourage diverse community involvement and consensus to further the vision of smart growth in Lee County.

To achieve this mission the SmartGrowth taskforce will undertake the following activities:

• Develop a sustainable process for community involvement and visioning
  
  
• Analyze, compile available data/studies
  
  
• Increase public awareness through education
  
  
• Develop and maintain a web site to foster community input and knowledge
  
  
• Foster a positive and proactive attitude
  
  
• Facilitate solutions/alternatives through consensus building, collaboration and involvement of the community
  
  
• Ascertain funding sources and prioritize funding needs
  
  
• Develop a methodology for evaluating success

In conducting our activities we will be guided by the following beliefs and values:
