ABOUT SMART GROWTH

These are large files in Power Point:

The Smart Growth recommendations shown under "Review and Discussion" were developed after several workshops. The background information is presented below.

Managing Transportation and Land Use is our workbook for the January 24th workshop.  It has issues, facts and messages of interest.  To begin to review the workbook, click here Managing Transportation and Land Use

The following workbook was used at the Land Use Workshop on March 14th, 2003. It is also a large file and may take a few moments to open.   Land Use Element

The workbook for the Water & Environmental Quality Elements is also available from the March 14th, 2003 meeting.  Water & Environmental Quality Elements

The Community Character Workshop was held on April 4th, 2003.  You can review the workbook with this link:  Community Character Element

One issue still under discussion is the link between housing and jobs.  More pointedly, whether workers can afford housing in the vicinity where they work.  If the answer is no, this is an issue that has the unavoidable side effect of causing major transportation costs.  One way to visually depict the magnitude of housing and jobs is through maps. The 2000 acres enables us to have some idea of job and population location. Map 1 is units, Map 2 is employment
