 Implementing Committee Recommendations 

Background 

The Smart Growth Committee has been empanelled to develop the County's concepts of Smart Growth, to review the County processes that would implement the concepts, and to make recommendations to further the accomplishment of the concepts. 

There are a number of efforts that will be underway that will enable the County to implement Committee recommendations. The County may undertake these efforts either directly through its own sovereign actions or in its role as a participant within a network of other public agencies.  These efforts include: 

            1.  General County Powers and Duties

                   a.  Regulation of the public health, safety, welfare, and morals

                   b.  Taxation and finance, expenditures

            2.  The County as Charter County

                        Commission or petition initiative and referendum

            3.  The County Comprehensive Planning Program (and Updates)

                    a.  Land use component

                    b.  Transportation component

c.  Public works component (water, sewerage,
     stormwater, solid waste)

d.  Parks, recreation, open space component

                    e.  Conservation, coastal zone components

                    f.  Social issues and affordable housing components

                    g.  Economic assumptions and capital budget components
