IMPACT OF A THOUSAND NEW RESIDENTS

    (2005 Data)

Estimating the impacts of growth is difficult-sometimes the impact is felt more than measured.  And the “felt” measurement is usually applied to the last impact observed, rather than to each individual impact.  However, for fun, this essay presumes the impacts are equal between equal numbers of people, regardless of when the population arrived.  To this end, the impact of a 1000 new people equals:

238 retirement aged people (65+ years in age), being added,as well as

201 children age 17 and younger.

485 new laborers are added, regretfully.

    29 are unemployed.

59 laborers are in construction, which exceeds the

12 in manufacturing, which is less than the

23 in finance, insurance, or real estate, and these and all others are less than the

    157 in service or trade.

    719 new houses being built,

435 of which occupied by residents, and

    284 seasonally or transitionally vacant.

$110 million is added to the taxable property values of the County, and

$21.5 million is added to the bank vaults, and

$32.7 million is added to County property income.

125,000 gallons of need for fresh water, and

100,000 gallons of sewerage needs to go “elsewhere,” along with

    4.5 tons of trash.

1336 more motor vehicles (huh?) will travel on the

2.5 miles of 2 lane road that should be built, that may lead to the

10 additional acres of parks, and

5 new classrooms we will need.

39 crimes more crimes will be committed, leading to

4 more persons residing in institutions maintained by the public, where the

4 persons employed by the County are oft believed to belong.

These impacts occurred 30 times last year.
